Beware of imitations, make sure it is an original Elcontrol’s product
Sharing real facts with others helps to shed a light on some ambiguous behavior. This is the reason why Elcontrol wants to share this story with you.
Few weeks ago, one collaborator of ours followed a google link of our product to measure and analyze the online development of the link itself, as we regularly do. What he found out was unexpected.
The link brought him on a famous e-commerce website where he found one of our products listed in the items for sale. At the first sight it looked like an Elcontrol product. The name was exactly the same just with a different logo on.
Despite this, what surprised him more was a negative comment left by a customer reported below:
He immediately reported the problem in order to find a solution. Analyzing better the product, it became evident to us that it was not an Elcontrol made component. Yet, it was a copy of a former Elcontrol’s distributor made with very cheap and poor materials. All the drawings, pictures and documents were 99% labelled Elcontrol, the only difference was the logo that resulted on them.
It is very hard for the customer to notice the difference between the Elcontrol product and the bad copy.
Every company knows the unfairness and unethical behavior of copying a product. It is not legal to use the same name, design and drawings of existing goods.
But this is not the point we want to share.
The point is the natural damage this action is causing to Elcontrol which no legal complaint will be able to refund. In the review, the customer expressed his disappointment (he writes “unfortunately”) as he was evidently happy of 12 years of reliable service of our original product and ready to buy it again.
Do you know anything better than a happy customer ready to buy again? How much does it cost to build this kind of loyalty?
As the product name was the same, the customer was of course convinced to buy Elcontrol’s original product again, however, he eventually got something useless for his business.
The final result is that in the customer’s mind this is Elcontrol’s “current version” of the product obtained by an “accountant’s redesign spoiling the excellent original design”.
Most probably in the customer’s mind, it is now firm the idea that all new Elcontrol’s products are made with the same poor and cheap materials. As we all know, to reconvert and retain customers takes a lot of time and effort.
Thus, the whole Elcontrol company is suffering the impact of damages even though today we are still producing with the same attention as twelve years ago, trying day by day to improve quality and reliability of our products.
